"Tess was a smooth haired Border Collie who came to us
at two years old after a troubled start in life. She was highly strung, nervous
and very lacking in confidence. She herded everything that moved, and
occasionally and rather optimistically, some things that didn’t. She lived with
me for over twenty years. She was the most wonderful, kind and devoted friend
and companion anyone could wish for. Right up to her final days she took her
responsibility of caring for everybody and making sure her herd was intact
extremely seriously. She could make time stand still with the strength and
focus of her anticipation. This bronze is derived from one of those moments, at
the boundary between herding and stalking, evoking her ancient ancestry."
