Paul Rafferty: Under the Sun

Overview

"Vibrant with light and colour, views across sparkling bays to distant headlands, patterns of sunshades on beaches and swimmers, colourful street scene with tables set out inviting us to sit down, and then in quiet, contemplative contrast to all that sweep and busyness, still-lives of flowers and table-tops pulled off with painterly panache."

- Richard Ormond CBE

In this exhibition of recent works Rafferty continues his exploration of all things glamorous; the beaches of the Côte d’Azur, the palm trees of California, opulent flower displays, and the occasional bottle of Pol Roger Champagne.

In these paintings Rafferty demonstrates his mastery of capturing the light and vibrancy of the South of France, whether in the rippling reflection of a swimming pool or in panoramic views of Cap Ferrat. Popular hot-spots like the Hotel Negresco, Club 55, and the Colombe d’Or feature alongside intimate scenes of bathers gathered under a sea of parasols.
