"I like that when you stand within the Barbican you feel like you are in a special place, as if you are within a castle’s walls, with space and calm between yourself and the mayhem of the city. I am particularly struck by the way that it is built upon some of the oldest sites, with Roman London beneath, and with ancient traces still there to be seen, making me very aware of the present structure and of our contribution to the city now." - Nick Botting

This November, we are delighted to present an exhibition of over sixty paintings by Nick Botting. At first glance, Botting’s paintings focus on landscape, with rolling hills or expanses of architecture but upon inspection, it is the figures that bring the paintings to life. The inhabitants of the Barbican, the locals bartering in the Rialto market and the distant swimmers on beaches animate the space.
