Peter Clark: Fancy Faces
Peter Clark is a master of collage, using a wide array of collected ephemera—from magazine clippings to maps and packaging—to create his vibrant works of art. These materials, carefully gathered over time, become the building blocks for his playful and intricate compositions.
In Fancy Faces, Clark presents a series of 21 collages, each focusing on an individual animal’s face. From the bulldogs that Peter holds so dear to more exotic animals like mandrills and lovebirds, each work unveils the distinct personality of its subject. Whether it's the soulful gaze of a cocker spaniel or the bold, confrontational stare of a chicken, Clark expertly distills the essence of each animal into a striking portrait.
The works pack a vibrant, visual punch but they are also filled with clever detail when viewed on closer inspection - such as the French Bulldog composed of French fashion advertisements or the diving gannet featuring clippings of scuba divers. Adding an extra layer of charm, many pieces in the exhibition are titled with one of Clark’s signature puns, infusing the show with his trademark wit.
These whimsical, graphic studies offer a delightful and affectionate look at the creatures that share our world. Join us in celebrating Peter Clark’s Fancy Faces, a joyful tribute to the personalities of our favourite animals, seen through the lens of a brilliant and unique artist.
