Christopher Marvell: Drawings

Running concurrently with our physical exhibition, this viewing room is a presentation of drawings on paper by Christopher Marvell.

Marvell’s technique of making sculpture is a long, labour-intensive and somewhat old fashioned process, but offers endless possibilities. An integral part to the making and craftsmanship of his bronze pieces is drawing. Each day begins for Christopher in his ‘drawing shed’, located at the bottom of the garden in his and Elaine Pamphilon’s Cambridge home. He considers shapes, simplicity of line and elements of humour that he then employs in the end product.

Many of the drawings in this series informed the final design of the sculptures that are currently on display in the gallery.
