A recent acquisition to the gallery is Roland Collins’ gouache of Pollet, Dieppe. The small island of Pollet was once a busy hub for Dieppe’s sailors until the 19th Century. Following in the artistic footsteps of Monet, Sickert and others, France and more explicitly Dieppe was a frequent holiday spot of Roland and his wife Connie. In this painting, Collins’ distinctive rich application of colour provides a dramatic view of the gothic town’s narrow cobbled street.
