‘The Cat and the Card’ is a wonderful combination of the artist's playful still life and figurative painting, while demonstrating inspiration from the 20th Century St Ives group. A small Ben Nicholson ‘White Relief’ rests alongside a jug - another typical Nicholson motif. The scene behind further alludes to the exploration of perspective and maritime subject matter, used by artists such as Alfred Wallis.
