Drawn to rich colour, lavish interiors and glamorous women, FCB Cadell created a series of paintings which captured the epitome of luxury in the 1920s. Painted at the artist's stylish Edinburgh studio Miss Bertina Don Wauchope, a frequent sitter, is captured here with striking elegance and allure. She sits upon Cadell's favoured mauve and gold chair, while a vase of roses arranged behind relates to the artist's famed still life works.
