McComb’s work rarely appears on the secondary market and for most of his career he avoided any close relationships with dealers or galleries, but he was well-known and regarded through his position as a Royal Academician and Keeper of the Royal Academy Schools from 1995 to 1998. His work covered a wide range of subjects and media, and he was an extremely accomplished watercolourist. Richard Morphett (Keeper of the Modern Collection at Tate Gallery, 1986-98) remarked that Len’s “pictures are alive from edge to edge, and animated by an admirable feeling for colour, sometimes very rich and sometimes of great delicacy, as well as by a beautiful quality of light.”
