“In 2020, I released the book Winston Churchill Painting on the French Riviera, documenting some of the many unknown painting locations I had discovered. I was inspired to create a life-sized statue of Sir Winston at his easel, with the wish of it being placed at one of his painting locations. I hoped to capture his intense concentration, happily indulging in his favourite pastime. Painting remained a passion for him until the end, or nearly the end of his life. Winston Churchill first painted St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat in 1921 and I have sculpted one of Churchill’s paintings of the Voile d’Or Hotel, in bas relief for my statue.” – Paul Rafferty
Sir Winston Churchill at his easel. One quarter scale of the original life-size bronze in St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. Other life-size casts will be unveiled at Pol Roger Champagne in Epernay and Blenheim Palace later in 2024.
