Fred Cuming was an English Romantic painter who devoted his life to exploring the colour and light of his surroundings. Inspired by J.M.W. Turner, John Constable, Pierre Bonnard and Paul Nash, Cuming often painted the South Coast of England around Hastings, Camber and Rye, responding to the ever-changing mood and atmosphere generated by these landscapes. the use of delicate, glowing light and gestural markmaking, his paintings of landscape and interior scenes create a dream-like atmosphere with a sense of wonder and mystery.
Cuming became a senior Royal Academician in October 2005. His works are held in notable museums across the UK.
