James Morrison RSA, RSW was a Scottish painter who captured the luscious and rugged wildness of the North West Highlands in watercolour, oil and pencil.

Born in Glasgow, Morrison went on to study at Glasgow School of Art (1950-54) and went on to teach at the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee (1965-87). He resigned as a tutor and went on to paint full time; his distinct and large scale views sold exclusively through The Scottish Gallery who continue to represent his estate today.

The Scottish isles were a prime inspiration for Morrison however, extended painting trips to France, Africa, Canada and the Arctic feature in a number of his artworks, demonstrating his versatility as a landscape painter.
