‘The Dream’ was one of my earliest paintings and certainly
one of the first larger works. Inspired by my two children Henrietta and Nathan
to whom I told bedtime stories. Children have such fertile imaginations and
here the sister gazes out of the window whilst her little brother dreams.
When I got the opportunity I bought this painting back from
the United States (having been part of an early London exhibition) where it had
lived for many years and made a few additions such as speckling the carpet and
adding pictures to the wall and a zebra on the hillside in the vista through
the window etc.
