The coming together of people, be they family or friends, to
share in a meal is both timeless and contemporary. In most cultures there are thanksgivings
and ceremonies in gratitude after the annual harvesting of fruits, vegetables,
crops and animal husbandry. Whether this is in homage to Gaia or God it is a
celebration of what man’s cultivation of this generous earth yields up to us
each year. All my supper paintings in some way make reference to Leonardo’s
magnificent tableaux The Last Supper with its biblical context.
