Ida was Augustus John's principle model after he left the Slade School and until around 1904. They married in 1901 and Ida had five sons within five years, a tumultuous period where John began his affair with Dorelia. Ida vital role in John's early career was never fully appreciated by John, who omitted any mention of her in his 1952 memoir, but his drawings and paintings of Ida are amongst his most accomplished works. Ida tragically died in March 1907 after a short illness.
